Cookie Policy
Nexans takes privacy and the protection of your personal data seriously. This includes providing transparency about the techniques and technology we use to enhance and personalize your browsing experience. Among these are the placement of cookies on your devices when you visit our websites and the processing activities performed. The following policy details Nexans approach to cookies and similar technologies.
1. What are cookies?
A cookie is a piece of information in the form of a very small text file that is placed on an internet user's hard drive. It is generated by a web page server, which is basically the computer that operates a web site. The information the cookie contains is set by the server and it can be used by that server whenever the user visits the site. A cookie can be thought of as an internet user's identification card, which tell a web site when the user has returned.(Source: www.AboutCookies.org)
Most browsers automatically accept cookies but you do not have to accept them. You can usually change your browser to prevent acceptance and you should still be able to enjoy most of the features on the sites. If you want to delete any cookies that are already on your computer or to stop cookies being accepted in future you should refer to your browser manufacturer's instructions by clicking "Help" in your browser menu. More information is available at www.AboutCookies.org.
2. Different types of cookies
There are different types of cookies. Cookies can expire at the end of a browsing session (from when a user opens the browser window to when he/she exits the browser) or they can be stored for longer.
Session and persistent cookies
Session cookies – a cookie that is erased when the user closes the web browser. The session cookie is stored in temporary memory and is not retained after the browser is closed. Session cookies do not collect information from the user’s computer. They typically will store information in the form of a session identification that does not personally identify the user. Websites typically use session cookies to ensure that you are recognised when you move from page to page within one site and that any information you have entered is remembered. For example, if an e-commerce site did not use session cookies then items placed in a shopping basket would disappear by the time you reach the checkout
Persistent’ cookies are more permanent pieces of information that are placed on the hard drive of your computer and stay there unless you delete the cookie. Persistent cookies store information on your computer for a number of reasons, such as retrieving certain information you have previously provided, helping to determine what areas of the website you find most valuable, and customising the web site based on your preferences.
Third party cookies
A third-party cookie is a cookie that’s associated with a domain name different from that of the page where the cookie is encountered. Third-party cookies are placed by a page object (an ad, for example) originating from a domain other than the one hosting the page. Most websites contain content originating from different sources (and therefore, different domains).
Some cookies that are stored when you visit our websites may be accessed by other companies. For example:
- Where a social network’s “share” or similar button is displayed on our websites, that social network may store and access its own cookies to provide the button’s functionality and for other purposes. (Please visit the privacy and cookies policy of that social network to understand more about their cookies).
- Where we embed contents from a partner, that partner may store and access its own cookies [or pixel-tags] so that we and they can target contents and messages/ads to you about Nexans solutions you have been browsing on our websites.
