Nexans Turkey enlightens the sector with technical trainings and seminars on cable accessories

Nexans is currently holding Nexans Cable Accessories Training in collaboration with its distributor Elit Enerji with the participation of purchasing departments, technicians and engineers from various electricity distribution companies, and is enlightening the Turkish industry from one end to the other.

The prominence of cable accessories which are supplementary elements and integrated system products of cables increases day by day in all the projects due to their critical position in terms of safety.

The trainings generally touch upon important subjects such as the introduction of Nexans cable accessories, video expression of correct application techniques and indication of mistakes made during application, and the main subjects of these trainings are as follows:
• The introduction of GPH low voltage and medium voltage mechanical lugs and connectors
• The introduction of Euromold L and T types screened separable connectors
• The introduction of Nexans cable terminations and joints (heat-shrinkable, cold-shrinkable, slip-on)
• The introduction of other Nexans cable accessories and cable stripping tools (bus bar insulation tubes, heat-shrinkable cable repair sleeves etc.)
• The determination of common mistakes during installations

What is a cable accessory?
A cable accessory (cable termination / screened separable connector and joint) is the equipment which mechanically protects cable, regulates it electrically and ensures energy continuity.

What to take into consideration as regards to cable accessories?
First of all, appropriate cable terminations / screened separable connector and joints should be chosen compatible with the technical characteristics and structure of a cable and suitable conditions should be ensured from cable laying to installation in order to prevent the issues which may take place in consequence of medium voltage cable termination / screened separable connector and joint applications.

The type tests of terminations / screened separable connector and joints to be used should meet the requirements of international standards in full (such as CENELEC and IEC), the characteristics of the cable to be installed should be well-studied, and the stripping of insulation and semi-conductive layers of a cable should be performed by specialized certified installers using appropriate tools and instruments and in compliance with installation instruction. Otherwise, incorrect and inattentive applications may cause repetitive product and installation costs due to termination / screened separable connector and joint explosions as well as other high costs arising, among others, out of power cuts.

In 2017, we organized trainings in 4 electricity distribution companies. Besides, we have held trainings with main contractor companies such as Armin, GAMA and Alarko since 2016. Van Gölü EDAŞ, Aras EDAŞ, Uludağ EDAŞ and Toroslar EDAŞ trainings were completed in 2018. Soon, we are also planning Osmangazi EDAŞ training".
